Facebook Announces new Save feature

Finally,  you can save those newsfeed bits and pieces you haven’t had the time to look at.  Facebook has recently revealed their latest ‘Save’ feature.  It allows users to bookmark items on newsfeed they’d like to view at a later time.

Software engineer from Facebook, Daniel Giambalvo, states: ”Every day, people find all sorts of interesting items on Facebook that they don’t have time to explore right away.  Now you can save items that you find on Facebook to check out later when you have more time.”

So what can you save?  Pretty much anything you want!  Links, movies, music, TV, places and videos are all fair game!

The good thing about this feature is that saved items are only available for users to view.  However, should you wish to share your save list with your friends, there will be a share-with-friends option.

In order to view your items in the ‘Save’list, you simply click on the ‘More’tab on your mobile or click the side panel on the left side of your computer browser.  Very simple!

Another good feature of ‘save’will be its organisation.  Your items will be categorised and you can share items or move things into an archive.  You will also get reminders in your newsfeed so that you don’t forget what you have in your ‘save’folder.  You’ll never miss your favourite video again!

‘Save’will be available to iOS, Android and Internet web browsers in just a few days.  But if you want any questions answered about the new feature, the Facebook Help Centre is available for questioning.  Facebook is also testing a new ‘buy’option where users can purchase things directly through their news feeds.  We may never have to leave our houses again!

Wreck of crashed Algerian plane spotted in Mali desert

The wreck of an Air Algerie flight carrying 116 people which disappeared from radar over northern Mali today has been spotted in the country’s desert, Mali’s president Ibrahim Boubacar Keita has said.“I have just been informed that the wreckage has been found between Aguelhoc and Kidal,” Mr Keita said during a meeting of political, religious and civil society leaders in Bamako. He did not give any more details.Air navigation services lost track of the MD-83 about 50 minutes after take-off from Ouagadougou, the capital of Burkina Faso, at 01.55 (GMT), the official Algerian news agency APS said.French foreign minister Laurent Fabius said Air Algerie Flight 5017 had “probably crashed”. 

Two French fighter jets are among aircraft scouring the rugged north of Mali for the plane today, which was travelling from Burkina Faso’s capital, Ouagadougou, to Algiers, the Algerian capital.

More than 50 French were onboard the plane along with 27 Burkina Faso nationals and passengers from a dozen other countries. The flight crew was Spanish. The flight was being operated by Spanish airline Swiftair, the company said in a statement. The Spanish pilots’ union said the plane belonged to Swiftair. 

The plane sent its last message at around 0130 GMT, asking Niger air control to change its route because of heavy rains in the area, Burkina Faso transport minister Jean Bertin Ouedraogo said.

The disappearance of the Air Algerie plane comes after a spate of aviation disasters. Fliers around the globe have been on edge ever since Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 disappeared in March on its way to Beijing. 

Searchers have yet to find a single piece of wreckage from the jet with 239 people on board.

Last week, a Malaysia Airlines flight was shot down by a surface-to-air missile while flying over a war-torn section of Ukraine. This week, US and European airlines started cancelling flights to Tel Aviv after a rocket landed near the city’s airport. 

Yesterday, a Taiwanese plane crashed during a storm, killing 48 people. 

French transport minister Frederic Cuvillier said the Air Algerie flight vanished over northern Mali. He spoke from a crisis centre set up in the French foreign ministry.Mr Cuvillier did not specify exactly where the plane disappeared over Mali, or whether it was in an area controlled by rebels. 

But Algerian prime minister Abdelmalek Sellal said on Algerian state television that 10 minutes before disappearing, it was in contact with air traffic controllers in Gao, a city essentially under the control of the Malian government, though it has seen lingering separatist violence.The plane had been missing for hours before the news was made public.It was not clear why airline or government officials did not make it public earlier. 

The flight path of the plane from Ouagadougou to Algiers was not immediately clear. Ouagadougou is in a nearly straight line south of Algiers, passing over Mali where unrest continues in the north. Northern Mali fell under the control of ethnic Tuareg separatists and then al Qaida-linked Islamic extremists following a military coup in 2012. 

A French-led intervention last year scattered the extremists, but the Tuaregs have pushed back against the authority of the Bamako-based government. A senior French official said it seems unlikely that fighters in Mali had the kind of weaponry that could shoot down a plane.

The official said that they primarily have shoulder-fired weapons - not enough to hit a passenger plane flying at cruising altitude. Swiftair, a private Spanish airline, said the plane was carrying 110 passengers and six crew, and left Burkina Faso for Algiers at 0117 GMT but had not arrived at the scheduled time of 05.10 GMT. 

Swiftair said it has not been possible to make contact with the plane and was trying to ascertain what had happened. It said the crew included two pilots and four cabin staff. “In keeping with procedures, Air Algerie has launched its emergency plan,” APS quoted the airline as saying.Algerian aircraft were overflying the region around Gao to try to locate wreckage, said Houaoui Zoheir, spokesman for the Algerian crisis centre. 

The passengers include 51 French, 27 Burkina Faso nationals, eight Lebanese, six Algerians, five Canadians, four Germans, two Luxembourg nationals, one Swiss, one Belgian, one Egyptian, one Ukrainian, one Nigerian, one Cameroonian and one Malian, Mr Ouedraogo said. 

The six crew members are Spanish, according to the Spanish pilots’ union. The MD-83 is part of a series of jets built since the early 1980s by McDonnell Douglas, a US plane maker now owned by Boeing.The MD-80s were the workhorse of domestic air travel in the US and are used for flights of a few hours over land elsewhere.

Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 crashes in east Ukraine

A Malaysia Airlines passenger jet carrying 295 people from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur has crashed in an area of eastern Ukraine where separatist rebels have been engaging Ukrainian military forces in recent weeks. Ukraine's president, Petro Poroshenko, said the jet may have been shot down.
"We do not exclude that the plane was shot down and confirm that the Ukraine armed forces did not fire at any targets in the sky," Poroshenko said in a statement.
The field next to the tiny rural hamlet where MH17 plunged to the ground was a scene of charred earth and twisted metal. Locals were distressed to find body parts scattered around the scene. The body of what appeared to be a young woman lay about 500 metres from the centre of the crash, while a dismembered foot could be seen on the one road leading through the village.
A strong smell of aviation fuel hung in the air as pro-Russian separatist fighters attempted to secure the area. Ten fire engines remained on the scene after rushing there to extinguish the many blazes caused by the crash.
One local resident, Alexander, said he was working in the field a few hundred metres from its final resting place when he looked up. He feared the aircraft was going to crash on him.

The house in which another local, also named Alexander, and his relative, Olga, live in was just metres from the crash site. They said they thought the village was being bombed after hearing two or three loud bangs before the force of the impact threw them to the ground.
In a statement, Malaysia Airlines said Ukraine's air traffic control lost contact with flight MH17 at 2.15pm GMT, approximately 30 miles from the Russia-Ukraine border.
"Flight MH17, operated on a Boeing 777, departed Amsterdam at 12.15pm [Amsterdam time] and was estimated to arrive at Kuala Lumpur international airport at 6.10am [Malaysia time] the next day. The flight was carrying 280 passengers and 15 crew." The flight also had a Dutch airline flight number from KLM, KL4103.
Anton Gerashchenko, an adviser to Ukraine's interior minister, wrote on his Facebook page that the plane had crashed in Ukrainian territory after being hit by a missile fired from a Buk launcher. Associated Press said one of its journalists had seen a similar launcher near the town of Snizhne earlier on Thursday.

Leaders of the self-declared Donetsk people's republic denied any involvement, according to Interfax news agency. A member of the republic's security council said rebel weapons only had the capacity to shoot down a plane at 3,000 metres and blamed Ukrainian military forces for the attack.
Poroshenko called for a commission to be set up to investigate the crash. "This is the third tragic incident in recent days after Ukrainian military An-26 and Su-25 jets were shot down from Russian territory. We don't rule out that this plane was also shot down, and we stress that the Ukrainian military didn't take any actions to destroy targets in the air," he said.
Earlier on Thursday, Ukraine accused Russia of downing one of its fighter jets inside Ukrainian territory.
Dmitry Peskov, a spokesman for the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, called allegations that Russia had been involved in the downing of MH17 "stupidity". Peskov told the Guardian that the Kremlin would not make a further statement on the tragedy because "no one knows" who is responsible.

Asked about the possibility of further US sanctions in light of this bloody development in the conflict in eastern Ukraine, Peskov said he could not rule it out.
"The United States has recently been conducting a very non-constructive policy, and their actions are very unpredictable," he said.
Speaking in Delaware, Barack Obama said that the incident "looks like it may be a terrible tragedy", adding that his top priority was to find out whether American citizens were on board. "I've directed my national security team to stay in close contact with the Ukrainian government. The United States will offer any assistance we can to help determine what happened and why. As a country, our thoughts and prayers are with all the families of the passengers, wherever they call home."
Earlier, Obama and Putin spoke on the phone about new US sanctions imposed on Moscow over its alleged failure to halt the flow of weapons and fighters to separatist forces in eastern Ukraine.
Several airlines, including British Airways, Aeroflot, Turkish Airlines and Russia's Transaereo, announced that they would avoid Ukrainian airspace with immediate effect. Lufthansa said it would steer clear of airspace over eastern Ukraine.
At least 30 Dutch-speaking passengers were on the plane, according to two travel agencies which sold tickets for the flight. According to Dutch newspaper websites, several Dutch passports were found near the scene of the crash.
The Malaysian prime minister, Najib Razak, said via Twitter: "I am shocked by reports that an MH plane crashed. We are launching an immediate investigation."
The country's defence minister tweeted that he was "monitoring closely" claims that MH17 had crashed, saying: "No comfirmation [sic] it was shot down! Our military have been instructed 2 get on it!"
The crash comes four months after Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 vanished on a flight from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing with 239 people on board, two-thirds of them Chinese citizens. It has yet to be found despite a massive international search, which is ongoing, but Malaysia Airlines has said it believes everyone on board died when the plane crashed into the southern Indian Ocean.
That aircraft was a Boeing-777 – the same kind of plane as flight MH17. In 2001, Ukraine admitted that its military was probably responsible for shooting down a Russian airliner that crashed into the Black Sea, killing all 78 on board. A senior Ukrainian official said it had most likely been downed by an accidental hit from an S-200 rocket fired during exercises.
In 1983, a Soviet jet fighter shot down a South Korean airliner after it veered off course into Russian air space and failed to respond to attempts to make contact. All 269 passengers and crew were killed.
In 1988, the US warship Vincennes shot down an Iranian airliner over the Gulf, killing all 290 passengers and crew, in what the United States said was an accident after crew mistook the plane for a fighter. Tehran called it a deliberate attack.

Drishyam Review

Story:-
Ram Babu(Venkatesh) is a honest cable operator in the small village of Rajavaram. He lives with his wife(Meena) and two teenage daughters and leads a happy life with his small but happy family.
One fine day, an uncanny incident featuring his elder daughter strikes his family, and puts them in deep trouble with the cops. Rest of the story is as to how Ram Babu manages to come out of his problems, and saves his family.

Plus Points:-
Firstly, I would like to commend Venkatesh for a doing a mature role like this. Time and again, he has proved that no one can beat him when it comes to family and sentiment films. He plays the character of Ram Babu exceptionally, and justifies it with heartwarming emotions. Venkatesh is especially good in the confrontation scenes with the police, and carries the whole film on his shoulders.
Meena is apt as Venkatesh’s wife, and supports him ably. Major highlight of the film is the way family emotions and the bond showcased between the family members connects with the audience. The girls who did the role of Venkatesh’s daughters were exceptional.
Yet another major plus point of this film is the suspense and thrill that is showcased throughout the film. Right after first fifteen minutes, till the very end, Drushyam holds you on to your seats completely. Once again Nadia does an superb job in the role of a police officer. She has a tailor made role and is ably supported by Naresh.

Minus Points:-
First fifteen minutes of the film looks pretty ordinary, and takes some time for the story to kick off. The so called romance that is showcased between Meena and Venkatesh looks unnecessary and forced.
Those who have seen the Malayalam version, will not enjoy the movie much. Some scenes and locations look similar to the original and could have been changed to suit the nativity.
