Can connecting cows to the Internet boost milk production?

In this day and age, when Internet of Things is a reality, can connecting livestock to the Internet improve their yield? A project in Scotland aims to find that by connecting cows to the Internet and monitoring them in real-time, BBC UK reports.

Scottish dairy farmers have come up with an idea of monitoring their cattle’s health by putting an electronic collar around the cows. The sensors inside the collar track the cow’s health and also the amount of milk being produced, and the data is sent to a computer. The system enables owners to keep a track of the health of their livestock and take precautionary action before the usual tell tale signs of things that can affect the animals appear.

Silent Herdsman, the company responsible for developing the system,  has plans of making the service available for a wider ecosystem. Eventually farmers can use this data to keep their cattle healthy and adopt measures to increase the dairy produce, just with the help of this wearable device.
So, much like the wearables we humans get, this one too can track what its user does, and how healthy it is. Thankfully, being human has its own plus points, so cows will never ever get something as beautiful as the Moto 360, would they?
